Our Commitment to Child Privacy
KidoTech is committed to protecting the privacy and safety of children who use our platform. We comply fully with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which regulates the collection of personal information from children under 13 years of age.
What is COPPA?
COPPA is a U.S. federal law designed to protect children's privacy online. It requires websites and online services that collect personal information from children under 13 to:
- Provide notice of their information practices
- Obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information
- Give parents access to their child's information
- Allow parents to prevent further use or collection of information
- Maintain reasonable security measures to protect collected information
How We Comply with COPPA
1. Educational Context
KidoTech operates under COPPA's "school official" exception. Our platform is designed for use in educational settings where teachers act as authorized representatives of parents. Teachers create and manage student accounts as part of their educational duties.
2. Limited Information Collection
We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide our educational services:
- Student Name: First and last name for identification within the classroom
- Username and PIN: Created by teachers for student login (not email addresses)
- Educational Data: Lesson progress, assignment completion, and resource downloads
- Technical Data: Device information and usage patterns necessary for platform functionality
We do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, or photos from students under 13.
3. No Third-Party Advertising
We do not display advertisements to students. We do not allow third-party advertising networks to collect information from students. We do not use student data for targeted advertising or marketing purposes.
4. Teacher and Parent Control
Teachers and parents have full control over student accounts and data:
- Teachers create and manage all student accounts
- Teachers can view student progress and activity
- Parents can request access to their child's information
- Parents can request deletion of their child's account at any time
- Parents can refuse to allow further collection of their child's information
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect student information, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/SSL)
- Secure data storage with access controls
- Regular security audits and monitoring
- Limited employee access on a need-to-know basis
- Row-level security policies on all database tables
6. No Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share student personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. Student data is shared only:
- With the student's teacher and school administrators
- With service providers who help operate our platform (under strict confidentiality agreements)
- When required by law or to protect safety
- With explicit parental consent
7. Data Retention
We retain student information only as long as necessary for educational purposes. When a student account is deleted or a subscription ends, we delete or anonymize student data within 90 days, except where retention is required by law or for educational record-keeping.
Parental Rights Under COPPA
Parents have the following rights regarding their child's information:
- Right to Review: Request to review the personal information collected from your child
- Right to Delete: Request deletion of your child's personal information
- Right to Refuse: Refuse to allow further collection or use of your child's information
